This is very simple but intriguing, why during Advent or Lent, the catholic church using Purple colour ?
There are two meanings : Act of Penance and Royalty
1. Act of Penance
It's according to Church liturgical colour, purple means act of penance. It reflects sorrows and suffering. Sorrows as the faithful await the arrival of Messiah and suffering to mark Jesus Christ's 40 days in the desert
2. Royalty
According to the ancient history, purple symbolises Royalty and King.
It's very special antique colour dye because it's very expensive thus only the King and royal members who were using Purple colour
