Gratitude :
I thank God for this beautiful and cooling day
I thank God that I felt loved this morning when I saw the study room was neat and cleaned by my husband
I thank God that I am able to do my household chores until half of this day
I thank God that I could exercise this morning
I thank God for His grace that I am able to start my fasting, first time in my life
I thank God for the good health that you give to my family
I thank God for the peace and love in my heart so I can keep myself down even though they keep doing something that annoyed me.
Reading : Jer 18 : 1 - 7
1. The Lord said to me
2. "Go down to the potter's house, where I will give you my messsage."
3. So I went there and saw the potter working at his wheel.
4. Whenever a piece of pottery turned out imperfect, he would take the clay and make it into something else.
5. Then the Lord said to me,
6. "Don't I have the right to do with you people of Israel what the potter did with the clay ? You are in my hands just like the clay in the potter's hands.
7. If at anytime I say that I am going to uproot, breakdown, or destroy any nation or kingdom,
The Grace I asked for : Understanding and Wisdom of the verse 4
Reflection :
During my first reading, the verse that captured me is verse 4. I kept reading and reading it but still have no understanding what is the meaning. Thus I ask the grace of understanding and wisdom.
I closed my eyes and started to imagine it.
It's a simple house in the village, I went in and saw the potter was in the wheel doing something.
Behind him, there are many beautiful artworks in the huge shelf.
Some are glasses, vase, bowl, plates, cups and even abstract object.
I asked him how long do you need to make for each object ? He answered it depends on the design and the type of the clay he used.
Then curious with what he's doing, I asked him What are you making ?
And he smiling showing me his design.
It's a beautiful vase.
I am sitting in the corner and observing him. Then I noticed that he kept repeating the narrow part in near bottom of the vase. I keep observing him and in the end I can't help not to ask him what happen ? Why do you keep doing in the same part over and over again ?
He told me that this part is the most difficult part and it's even more difficult because the type and character of the clay he used is very stubborn thus the shape is not perfect and it will effect the other part of the vase.
Then I just keep quiet and observing him, after a while he decided to let the clay shaped in the straight form and put some diagonal line decoration on the 3/4 part of the vase and the top is still the same with the original design. It turned out to be beautiful simple vase.
And he asked me which one do you like ? The original design or the final product ?
I told him, the original design is beautiful but I prefer the final product because it's kinda simple, elegant and it simply like my personality.
Then smiling, he explained to me. That's the meaning of all this.
From the beginning, God has this purpose for each of everyone including me.
Like for me, my final product would be Vase. At first God has this original design.
But God can't make it happen without the clay. Every clay has different characteristic and type.
Even though the original design looks extravagant but if the clay is not suitable, it won't turned out perfect.
But when He works together with this type of clay, it turned out to be beautiful vase too. The purpose and destination is the same but the journey may be different from the original blue print.
And this vase is you. You love the final product, because it's you.
I feel fall in love with the final piece of the vase.
It's really a good reminder, if God never forces us and respects us and work together with our strength, characters, I should do the same to others ( my husband, children, community).
The final destination or purpose is the same but I can't force my way, asking them to do what I want.
Instead working together with their strength and characters to make it happen.
Thank you Lord for this beautiful reminder and let this simple vase always remind me that You always work together with my strengths, characters and gifts to make it happen.
In the end, I ask for the grace of humility.
