Day 8 - spiritual exercise ( 5 September 2018)

Day 8

St Ignatius believed that we can find God in all things, at every moment even in the most ordinary times. To do this, we must take time to reflect on our experience, to look at the data of a day and discern their meaning.

Five steps ( the examen ) to help us find God in all things.
1. Pray for God's help
2. Give thanks for the gifts of this day
3. Pray over significant feelings
4. Rejoice and seek forgiveness
5. Look to tomorrow

Reading Psalm 121 : The Lord Our Protector

1. I look to the mountains ; where will my help come from ?

2. My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth

3. He will not let you fall ; your protector is always awake.

4. The protector of Israel never dozes or sleeps

5. The Lord will guard you ; he is by your side to protect you

6. The sun will not hurt you during the day, nor the moon during the night

7. The Lord will protect you from all danger ; he will keep you safe

8. He will protect you as you come and go now and forever

Reflection

It happened today that God is my protector.
Our right front car was deflated on our way back home and I didn't realise it until a car behind me was giving me a signal that my tyre was deflated.
I was with the three children so I stopped at nearby HDB complex to check how bad it was.
I was pondering what to do, whether I should go to nearby tyre shop and I remembered that I just finished messaging my mom in law so I asked her what I needed to do.

My father in law then quickly called me and instructed me to pump the tyre first using the compression tools in car's boot.
Since this was my first incident with car, I didn't even know the parts of the car and he directed me patiently step by step until I was able to inflate the tyre again.

Then I brought the car to nearby tyre shop and it's not crowded so they checked and patched the punctured tyre less than 10 minutes and we were able to go back home just in time for lunch.

This was small incident that might endanger our family, however it proved that God is truly our protector and guardian and He sent strangers or family to help us along the way.

This was like psalm 121 came alive
" The Lord will guard you ; He is by your side to protect you."
" The Lord will protect you from all danger ; He will keep you safe "
" He will protect you as you come and go now and forever "
