10 Deadliest Signs of Self - Righteousness

This writings are wake up call for me about what is SELF - RIGHTEOUSNESS and how to identify SIGNS OF SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS
I re-write it again from this blog

What is SELF - RIGHTEOUSNESS ?

This is deceptive righteousness that brings us away from Christ. This is a virtue that was condemned by God and it's so potent that can spiritually blind a person without we realising it.
It's so difficult to detect the self - righteousness in oneself unless they start realising what has going wrong and open their heart for a change.

10 SIGNS OF SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS

1. Self Righteous People Repel Others

Genuine righteousness draws people towards us like Jesus Christ. He draws people and not fend them off. However, self-righterous people make us feel uncomfortable, unrighteous and guilty because this person constantly rub on our face with his righteous acts and in the process put people down.

2. Self Righteous People Parade Good Works

In Gospel Matthew 23, Christ condemned Pharisees and scribes being perfect self - righteous. They love to publicly display their righteousness to people. When they fast, they want to appear to people fasting. When they repent, they don't produce the fruit of repentance and the list goes on.

3. Self Righteous People Are Uncompassionate

Being self - righteous makes us without compassion, because we see other people full of sins and faults and we don't understand why they are that way.
We have a hard time looking into ourselves and realizing that we also have a lot of unchecked problems.

4. Self Righteous People Hate and Condemn Sinners

On the opposite of Jesus, who loves the sinners, self righteous people hate sinners instead of hating the sins. The danger is it makes us believe that we take a role as God. We condemn and pass judgement.
True righteousness loves the sinner but hates the sin.

5. Self Righteous People Loves Praises from The Man and Approval

Self - righteous person loves to gain approval from people. He loves to look good and perfect. Sadly he has his rewards.
When we do something good, we do it not to show how righteous we are but we to show how great is our God so that our God is glorified.

6. Self Righteous People List the Good Works

Every time we do something good, we list all our good deeds and add them all up and show ourselves and others how righteous we are ! When we do this we forget that our righteousness is just like Filthy Rugs (Is 64 : 6) It's nothing compared to the Righteousness of God
It's not our job to list our good deeds, It's God's.

7. Self Righteous People Reject Corrections

When we hold on to our self - righteousness, it will harden us. And by the time when we need to be corrected, Pride sets in and we become unteachable.
This hardness of heart  may spring from the belief that we know almost everything and nothing new can impress us anymore and we won't let anybody tell us what to do

8. Self Righteous People Talk Back to God

For God to be able to work with us, we need to empty and humble ourselves. But self righteous people may talk back and rationalise their thoughts and actions. We may tell God how good we are by following His commandments and that He owes us a pat in our back and praises !

9. Self Righteous People Think Themselves as Important

In our zeal and passion on doing God's works, we are trapped into thinking that it's all about US.
We look at the results of our work and say WOW ! How many people has been inspired by me !
This type of thinking is focusing on Self Right literally which in reality it's supposed to be Christ - Right.

10. Self Righteous People and Self Pity

Instead of seeing trial and challenges in life as a way to develop godly righteousness, we would instead pity and prevent themselves from developing Enthusiasm to fight back. True righteousness see the trials as corrections to bring us back to God.
