St Dominic Savio was born in Northern Italy on April 2, 1842. He was the second of eleven children who were poor, hard working people.
He was a remarkable boy and his biography was written by St John Bosco and the testimony of family and friends.
He was very bright and enjoyed school as well as play. He's well like and respected by his friends and had remarkable control over his emotions. He's friendly and showed early his leadership qualities. He was a prayerful person and had mature spirituality.
He was an altar boy and received First Holy Communion at the age of seven.
As the day of his First Communion drew near, he wrote down 4 resolutions
1. I will go to Confession and Communion as often as my confessor will allow
2. I will sanctify Sundays and Holy Days in a special way
3. Jesus and Mary will be my friends
4. Death, but not sin
The young Dominic graduated to secondary school and walked 3 miles each day to school . While walking to school on a hot day a farmer asked why he wasn't yet tired. He cheerfully replied "Nothing seems tiresome or painful when you are working for a master who pays well".
His teacher spoke well of him and brought him to the attention of Fr. John Bosco and he expressed his interest in becoming priest and asked to go to Turin to attend oratory of St Francis de Sales. Fr Bosco agreed to take him.
In short, his health began to deteriorating and before his departed, he exercised Happy Death and predicted this would be final devotion. He asked to his parents to bring priest for last confession and was given anointment of the sick. He died at age 14.
